Output Stream

Output stream

The Output Stream element is the output point from Streamrun to the platforms you're streaming to, like Twitch, YouTube, or a custom RTMP server. Add up to six destinations to each Output Stream element and multistream to all of them with ease. Manage your destinations using the Output Destinations tool.

Going live with output destinations

To go live with output destinations, switch the configuration to RUNNING mode by pressing the green Run button. When the configuration starts, outputs remain offline by default. You’ll be redirected to the controls page, where you can set outputs live and start streaming to your audience.

Settings

  • Output type

    • Standard
      • Enable one or more output destinations, like YouTube, Kick, or your custom RTMP server. Manage destinations on the Output destinations page and refresh the list after modifications.
    • YouTube Dual Stream
      • Stream to YouTube simultaneously in both horizontal and vertical orientation. Read more about YouTube Dual streaming.
    • Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting
      • Stream to Twitch in Dual Format and multiple resolutions simultaneously. Select your Twitch account, and the optimal stream configuration will be fetched from Twitch when you go live. If this Output type is selected, no other destination can be added to this Output Stream element. To multistream, add a Splitter element and another Output Stream element.
      • Dual Format (horizontal&vertical)
        • Stream to Twitch in both horizontal and vertical orientations at the same time. Select your Twitch account, connect the horizontal and vertical inputs, and go live. Twitch Dual Format is currently in beta. If your account doesn’t support it yet, you’ll see a “Not enabled” warning. Read more about Twitch Dual Format streaming.
      • Horizontal video only
  • Encoding settings

    • In the Encoding settings, you can define the output resolution, bitrate, and framerate. These usually don’t need to be changed unless you have specific output requirements.
    • Resolution and bitrate options are available for the Standard output type. When using Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting or Twitch Dual Format, the stream configuration is fetched automatically.
  • Audio settings

    • With audio settings, you can define the outgoing audio track when using the Twitch VOD track feature.
      • Live track
        • Audio track 1 from the incoming live video, with Streamrun audio (e.g. Video Player or HTML Overlay) mixed on top.
      • VOD track
        • Audio track 2 from the incoming live video, with Streamrun audio (e.g. Video Player or HTML Overlay) mixed on top. If your input does not contain two audio tracks, the Live track is used automatically.
      • Live + VOD
        • Streams the Live and VOD tracks separately. This works with Twitch, which uses the Live track for the live stream and the VOD track for recorded videos. Other platforms typically use only the Live track. In most cases this option should still work for non-Twitch destinations, but compatibility is not guaranteed.

Destination status

Output destinations Output Stream elements with type Standard can include multiple output destinations. Elements of the type Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting or Twitch Dual Format can contain only Twitch and the stream is encoded with multiple resolutions and qualities.

A red or green dot indicates whether a destination is currently live.

Errors and warnings

Output destination error If an output destination shows ERROR, the destination server has rejected the live stream after several retries. This is usually caused by:

  • Incorrect stream key
  • Mistyped RTMP URL if a custom destination
  • Outage or issue on the destination platform. Check Downdetector to see if other people are having issues with the platform as well

If an output destination shows NOT ENABLED warning, you are either

  • Trying to broadcast Dual Format stream to Twitch but Twitch hasn't enabled Dual format support on your account yet. Switch to standard horizontal output for Twitch.
  • Trying to broadcast Dual Stream to YouTube but Dual format support is not yet enabled on your YouTube account. Switch to standard horizontal or vertical output for YouTube.
