Streaming Modes

Every Streamrun configuration exists in one of three modes: Offline, Preview, or Running. Offline and Preview are free — you can build and test your setup without any cost. Only Running mode uses credits or streaming hours.

The three modes

OFFLINEFree

The default state. The configuration is not running and no video is being processed. Use this mode to build and adjust your setup at no cost.

PREVIEWFree

Preview activates automatically when you open the Streamrun Editor and have at least one Output Stream element on the canvas. It lets you see a live preview of your configuration while editing.

Preview video is lower quality (around 480p) and does not reflect final output quality. Preview servers are offered on a best-effort basis and may not always be available. Read more about preview video.

RUNNINGUses credits or streaming hours

A server instance is reserved for your configuration and you are ready to go live. The cost of running a configuration is shown on its overview page under Price to RUN, including any add-ons. Prices are shown per hour but partial hours are billed by the second.

Switch to Running mode by clicking the green Run button on the dashboard, the configuration overview page, or in the Streamrun Editor. Running mode also starts if you set an output destination live in the editor.

Starting Running mode

Click the green Run button from the dashboard or configuration overview page.

Switch to Running mode

Automatic stop

Running mode stops automatically after five minutes of inactivity. Inactivity means all of the following are true:

  • Nothing is being streamed to your Input Stream elements.
  • All Output destinations are offline.
  • Neither the Streamrun Editor nor Remote Control is open in a browser.
To prevent accidentally leaving destinations live, any instance with active outputs but no active inputs will also stop automatically. You can control this with the Auto-stop instance with no inputs setting on the account settings page. Note: when auto-stop is enabled, streaming static content like a “Starting soon” screen for an extended period is not possible.

Stopping manually

Stop a running configuration at any time from the Remote Control page or from the configuration overview using the Stop button. When Running mode ends, all outputs go offline and the instance returns to Offline mode.
